Can overstocking a fish tank make the fish less active?

My fish in my fish tank are always soo lazy, i think it might be because it's overstocked.

PerfectFalse | Oct 26, 2012
Depending on the level at which you've overstocked it at, yes. More fish means higher ammonia levels. Unless you have a filtration system designed for a tank larger than what you're using on it, it's likely that they are sluggish due to the ammonia levels. Check it regularly and make adjustments as needed.
Dildo | Oct 26, 2012
Get rid of them, fish belong in the wild. It's the most corrupted animal industry along with reptile keeping.
Meriq | Oct 26, 2012
yes it might be a reason and also the availability of oxygen and the other species living mutually with each other like some fresh water fishes like guppys are afraid of sucker cats,so they become dull and you should also take care of the cleanliness, the chlorine levels in water and light!

I currently have a ferret named Trevor. In the somewhat recent past I have had ferrets named Snuggly, Pretzel, and Buddy. Buddy was my first ferret. I had never seen or heard of one, prior to him. He was a rescue. When I got him, I was afraid I'd have to give him back to the original owner, so I asked him if he wanted to be my buddy. The name stuck. While I had Buddy, when my neighbor's little girl (3 yrs old) would see me without him, she would ask "Where's your little pretzel?" Considering that my ferret was a sable brown, and how they curl up etc., I thought Pretzel was a great name for my next ferret. Then I got a little girl, who slept between my pillows at night, and always wanted to be with me. So I named her Snuggly. Trevor was named by his previous owner. He's the new man in my life!♥ LOL Growing up we had dogs, cats, fish and birds. My grandparents had horses. I enjoy animals. It sounds like you do too! Ü

Fishing, An Angler's Dictionary

Creator: Henry Beard, Roy McKie | Sports & Recreation - 2002-04-01

A lexicon with over 200 dead-on definitions for anglers and 50 witty line illustrations, this revised edition is perfectly sized for one of those mysterious ballooning pockets on a fishing vest.

Publisher: Workman Publishing

About this book
One of the most popular books ever published on the art of angling looks irreverently at the fishing life, from hook-"An irritating but highly reliable device used to quickly and precisely locate the position of one's thumb at the bottom of a tackle box"--to line--"Length of long, thin, strong synthetic material stretched between two fishing rods and joined at its midpoint by a pair of linked hooks"--to sinker--"A lead weight in any of a variety of shapes and sizes attached to lines or terminal tackle to facilitate the speedy disposal of unwanted lures."

    It was huge!!

I bought this shirt for my husband to take on a long European vacation. It is lightweight, cool, and has lots of pockets (which he loves). Unfortunately, it was designed by a tentmaker. My husband wears a large in every shirt but THIS large would have fit two of him. It was like an extremely baggy dress. It seemed like a nice shirt but we didn't have time before the trip to return it and try other sizes. I think he would have worn a small and he's not a small man. 2/5 Sherrie Knighton (SEAL BEACH, CA, US) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Terrific bag, great find, especially for the price

I bought this bag in early 2010. I really prefer using a soft sided tackle bag after trying a few different things over the years including hard tackle boxes and boxes with stacks of trays/boxes inside, and this is the first new one I have bought in a long time. My last bag was an old soft duffle bag I had re-purposed, this bag is actually designed for fishing. I looked at many bags at Amazon.com, auction sites and fishing gear sites before choosing this bag. For one thing, tackle boxes and bags have gotten very expensive, so price was one of my considerations in choosing a new tackle bag for fishing. For the price this bag was really affordable compared to other bags I looked at. Once I chose which bag I wanted, the best price was here at Amazon, especially with shipping.I fish with bait, lures, flies, and the fish I seek out are trout, bass, perch, kokanee salmon, catfish and bluegill. I wanted a tackle bag that would hold everything but my rod, net, and lunch. But with... 5/5 microjoe - See all my reviews, September 9, 2010

Really nice tackle bag for the money

This is a really nice tackle bag for the money. I paid $25 here on Amazon for it, and I very rarely buy bags online since they are hard to know what it's really going to be like when you get it delivered, but thanks to the photos from one of the other reviewers, I decided to take a chance. The construction is of decent quality. It probably won't last forever, but it is also not shoddy. There are lots of pockets on the bag. Under the top lid there's a clear plastic pocket, on the front side there's a large pocket that when opened has a number of smaller pockets inside (without zippers) and the front pocket's lid also has a zipper pocket inside, plus a small one on the outside that you can see in the photos. There's a mesh pocket on one side for a water bottle or can of beer, plus another pocket with a flap over it that I haven't decided what to use it for. Perhaps beer in that one and water in the mesh pocket. On the other side there's yet another pocket... 4/5 MysteryShopper - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Great product

I got this for my boyfriend for Christmas and he loves it. He hunts and fishes a lot and it's fantastic for small game. He's already gotten a lot of use out of it. Before he got it, he usually just cleaned the fish or small game with a little knife he had on the bed of his truck. I guess he didn't realize how much he needed something like this. The cutting board and different size knives are great, and he was really excited when he saw the knife sharpener and the gloves, because his knife gets really dull really fast, plus he won't have to worry about the mess that's left on his hands all day. Another great plus is the case that it comes in is not huge, bulky or awkward like I was expecting. It's very thin and lightweight, and he can easily slide it in and out of the back seat of his truck. He most likely won't get any use out the scale considering it's pretty cheap compared to his other one. Plus the highest reading on the scale is only 6 lbs I think. But overall it's a great product... 5/5 Emily C. Dailey "edailey" (St. Louis, MO) - See all my reviews, April 7, 2010

Doesn't Come Much Better For The Price

This is a great little set of nice quality tools for the price for sure. I was first introduced to this set when my son was a boy scout and we spent a couple of summers on a local lake here fishing with his troop. Truthfully speaking I bought this set for I didn't think his skills, (nor mine actually) warranted spending any big bucks on equipment. When I went into a local bait shop here for a couple of knives, file, etc, I was surprised that the prices on average for just one knife was more than this whole set complete. I ended up buying this one here on Amazon and was greatly pleased by the quality for the price. It was the perfect set for the scout troop to learn to scale and clean fish with. And though we didn't do any hunting back in those days, I have no doubt it would have been very efficient for small game as well. In fact, though my son is all grown up now I still have this set around and take it along on my own fishing trips to this day. About the only thing I would... 5/5 Ambergris "John Thomas" (New England.....USA) - See all my reviews, March 27, 2012

    More for kids

This was interesting to say the least. The kids liked it and it kept them quiet and patient while in the boat so long. They didn't care weather they caught something or not....,they just liked looking and watching. It must have got water in the unit you look thru as after the 1st use it had a black/brown streak running thru the middle (of course) of the viewfinder. That made it difficult to really see good after that. Waiting to see if it will dry out and be OK later on. Can't use it trolling or in any weedy area's as if it gets stuck in the weeds and you pull, you could tear off the camera part and then it would be ruined and you might as well throw it away. Good for kids still fishing...off the end of the dock or quiet waters. Cost is too high a price to pay to keep kids entertained. Adults won't care for it. Too short a pole and it makes a loud noise when being cranked up. Enough to scare the fish and wake the dead. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Many uses, good quality

I was a bit skeptical about the product prior to purchase but it was such a cool concept that I had to take the leap. Well, I have been very pleased with Fisheyes and surprised about the multiple uses of the product. My primarily reason for the purchase was to keep my kids occupied when we went out on the boat in the lake. While they didn't catch any fish with it, they were able to clearly see the plant life on the bottom of the lake (not a very keep lake). They thought this was very cool. For the hell of it, I took it with him during my annual fly fishing getaway with my high school friends. What I did was to lay the camera in the stream, pointed sideways in calm pool behind a rock. I then extended the line to the max length (I think it is around 25') and watched for fish to show up. Well they did and we were able to catch several fish using this method. Don't fool yourself and think you will catch a big fish with this product - you won't but just entertaining the kids alone... 5/5 amazonbuyer - See all my reviews This review is from: Fuzion Fish Eyes Rod and Reel (Sports) I was a bit skeptical about the product prior to purchase but it was such a cool concept that I had to take the leap. Great price! Not all my lures worked.

I bought this package for the price and color selection. Unfortunately the Rattle trap style lures did not work out of the box. I have since repaired them by drilling a small hole putting in some steel shot and epoxying the hole shut. They work great now. The selling company was notified and hope they have fixed the problem. The lures have great color selection and paint is nice. With a little tweaking I am happy with the way they all perform. 4/5 Jesse - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Excellent Hood Removal Solution

I used to have a hook remover similar to this some years back, but the past few years, had just been using needle-nose pliers. I catch a lot of bluegill and even the big 9-11" ones can be problematic to get hooks out of. Even if the pliers can get down there, they block any sight you have.I am very glad I picked this hook remover up. It makes removing hooks a breeze and the fish are happy too because they are back in the water alive and well. Even if you don't get this specific hook remover, consider always having one on hand to get a hook out to prevent unnecessary death of fish that swallow the hook.Regarding the hook extractor itself, it has been working well so far. All the pieces seem well made, of good materials, and don't feel flimsy. Great product in my opinion and one that I shouldn't have waited so long to get. 5/5 Matt "AmazonAddict" (Michigan, USA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Remove hooks with ease, quickly.

Easy to use and doesn't take long to remove a hook from a fish, even if it swallowed your hook deep. You have very good control over sharp hooks. Just insert the jaws around the hook and squeeze the grips together and manuver the hook out. I'm giving this only 4 stars because I'm not sure how great the stainless steel will hold up. I do realize stainless is just that: stain-less and not stain-proof, but any tool around water has to stand up to rust. 4/5 T Matthews - See all my reviews This review is from: Berkley Stainless Steel Hook Remover (Sports) Easy to use and doesn't take long to remove a hook from a fish, even if it swallowed your hook deep. Tool appears well made and functional. My only suggestion is pay close attention to the size -- it is much bigger than I realized when I purchased. (If they include size information I missed it -- is certainly needed). Too big for panfish (which was what I intended to use it for). However I am keeping it anyway -- will probably come in very handy when I go fishing for catfish and bass next Spring. 3/5 Martin - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) The book every fisher should own

Two things jumped at me the moment I began to read "What Fish Don't Want You to Know " The Author Frank P. Baron not only knows the in and out of fishing he is also passionate about it. The other thing that jumped at me is that the book is written in an easy to understand language and with humour. Unlike many other books covering this subject, this book is actually very entertaining and full of common sense wisdom that only can come from years of fishing.Let me say it right here if you look for any "secrets" or a "sure fire strategy" to catch more or bigger fish then this is the wrong book for you. But then again, we all know there are no secrets for fishing success other than spending time on the lakes and streams and learning about the fish. It is exactly here where this book shines. In my opinion, this book should find a home in every fishers bookshelf. The novice fisher will learn from the book what it takes to become a successful fisher and what equipment is needed... 5/5 Othmar Vohringer (B.C. Entertaining and Educational guide on fishing

If you enjoy fishing and you're looking for some simple tips to improve your odds, this book is likely going to help you out. The Author is very entertaining and makes reading easy. Several of the chapters are very applicable no matter where you live or what type of freshwater fish you are trying to bag.I learned a lot by reading this book, and I have been fishing consistently for 20 years. I always thought I was a good fisherman and could read holes well in a stream to find fish, or find them in a Lake. Frank Baron taught me a lot more than I thought I could learn. From basic things like how to properly bait up a worm, to fishing jigs in the weeds or likely spots for finding walleye on the bottom of a lake. The author goes over several aspects of fishing from a boat, and from shore.Again I really enjoyed the author's abundant humor throughout the book. Sounds like a fun guy to go fishing with. One thing I will add to my tackle, as per the author's... 5/5 David Blair (Salt Lake City, UT) - See all my reviews, August 17, 2005

    Even If You Don't Fish...

This is not only an attractive, extremely well-presented and well-executed guide to the basics (and beyond) of freshwater fishing, but also a warm and humorous visit to the sport and the humans who love it. The unassuming but effective and informative photos of personal real-life fishing experiences convey perfectly what it means to be among the millions who find fishing a highly rewarding way to connect to the planet in all its earthy reality.Environments, situations, tackle and techniques are also represented handsomely with additional photos and stylish illustrations. The text is sprinkled with engaging "Not So Tall Tales" from a lifetime of outdoor life. The information supplied is more than comprehensive, without becoming overwhelming or confusing. All the crucial keys are here to not only catching more fish, but also to enjoying fishing more, even if they don't happen to be biting. But the major asset here is the unpretentious, down-home intelligence and humor of the... 5/5 Cay Sehnert (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews This review is from: What Fish Don't Want You to Know: An Insider's Guide to Freshwater Fishing (Paperback) This is not only an attractive, extremely well-presented and well-executed guide to the basics (and beyond) of freshwater fishing, but also a warm and humorous visit to the sport and the humans who love it. okay I guess

Ultimately, a joke. The tape measurer is really hard to get out - especially when holding a 2 pound fish in one hand - the scale works okay, not sure how accurate, the knives are dull, the led did not come with batteries, the stand... what for? the scissors cut through 2 lines before they stopped working. All in all not really the best thing I have ever used. Just switched to an old tape measurer and tools from Rapala. 2/5 WilliamR - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) I have been buying Columbia Bonehead shirts for my husband for many years now. He is an A/C contractor and a Maintenance Supervisor for apartment communities, the shirts get a tough work out and continued washing. They are top quality shirts that have lasted longer than most shirts would have in the professions my husband is in. Great shirt, although bigger than normal

I bought two of this for my boyfriend and he was really please about the fabric and design, the only thing that we found it might be a problem is that the size is bigger than usually, for example he always use Medium and in this one he must use Small. So, if you're gonna buy one, I would say that you should buy a size smaller that you usually use. 4/5 somegirl - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Best Ultra Light Spin-Cast Pack Rod in my Collection

I am an avid Fly-Fisherman although not a purist, a backcountry guide, an outdoor writer ( You think?) as well and I simply LOVE this Ultra Light Combo! I spend an average of about 150-200 days a year on the water so the gear I choose must be the best. If too many fish are taken on flies or they in turn are not taking what I have to offer, I love the flexibility of having a great spin-cast reel on my pack. I bought mine from the Cherry Creek Orvis Store just about six years ago and it still functions like the day I purchased it. Unlike the review from "Ultralight-Hiker" on Amazon who "couldn't determine" what the weight class of "ultra-light" pole is and stated:"I would never buy any product that advertises its self as ultralight and then does not list its weight. I have searched at least 20 sites trying to find the weight of the rod, the reel, and the case. If your going to advertise a product as ultralight it seems very poor judgement to have no information of the actual... 5/5 Great White (Rocky Mountains) - See all my reviews This review is from: Daiwa Mini System Minispin Ultralight Spinning Reel and Rod Combo in Hard Carry Case (Sports) I am an avid Fly-Fisherman although not a purist, a backcountry guide, an outdoor writer ( You think?) as well and I simply LOVE this Ultra Light Combo! MiniSpin Still a Great Buy

I have had one of these for over thirty years. I bought this one for my son. The MiniSpin is still an excellent way to take a high quality fishing combo wherever you go. It is not the rig for chasing huge fish, but I have caught pike on mine, and my son caught a four pound bass with his the first weekend he used it. This is a serious light spinning outfit. I recommend getting a second spool and filling one spool with four pound line and one with six. The four pound line works great with this rod and reel for things like crappies and smallmouth bass. Much more fun than just hauling them out of the water with a stiff rod and ten or twelve pound line. Six pound gives better results where there are weeds or bottom obstructions - you don't lose so much terminal tackle. The plastic latches on the case will wear with time, so I use a large elastic band to hold them closed. I highly recommend this package. 5/5 jflann - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Best Pack Rod

I've had one of Daiwa's pack rods for many years. At that time it came in a rectangular carrying case and the guides were thread wrapped - rather than taped. As a friend has had one with the "T" shaped case for 25 years, it must be somewhat older than that. Because it can be broken down to such a small size - it is an excellent rod for canoe portage fishing trips and for hiking in through the brush to the best trout streams. I have caught everything from 12 pound northern pike to brook trout and pan fish with this rod. In recent years my wife has purchased one as well. While it will never have the natural feel of a one piece rod, it does surprisingly well for coming in five pieces. My wife says it is my lucky rod, and after many years of "borrowing" it from me - I bought her one of her own. She loves to fish for bronze-backs and has already put fillets in the frying pan numerous times. 4/5 Fishing Jo (NE Minnesota) - See all my reviews This review is from: Daiwa Mini System Minispin Ultralight Spinning Reel and Rod Combo in Hard Carry Case (Sports) I've had one of Daiwa's pack rods for many years.
