SACRAMENTO RIVER, Woodfords - Fishing on the mid- and upper sections of river from Chico to the Barge Hole had been very good, but got even better this past week, as most guides were catching limits or near limits. SACRAMENTO RIVER, Sacramento - Salmon fishing broke wide open last week, with many anglers picking up at least one fresh king salmon, and quite a few catching limits from Garcia Bend, through Freeport, Miller Park, the Minnow Hole, Discovery Park... Most fish are still very bright between Tisdale and Red Bluff, which was good during the week, but really took off toward the weekend. Most of the fish were being caught on backtrolled plugs, but a few were being caught on roe.

ice fishing tips and suggetsions please?

I am going to take my son to an ice fishing derby this weekend, and I know nothing about fishing. Can anyone help me out with some tips, as well as what kind of lures to buy..size and colour? Bait? Closer to shore or further out? Any and all tips would be extremely helpful..would love my son to catch a fish. Here's what I can tell you: Temperature is suppose to be cool around -14C, the water quality is murky, small lake at higher elevation, the forecast calls for partly cloudy conditions, fishing times are from 12- 3 PM. Jacks/Northern pike are most commonly caught in this lake. We have both a rod and a tip up. We have some Canadian Shiner Minnows, but do I need something bigger like a smelt? I also have 12 and 14 lb line. Thanks folks hope to make this an awesome fishing experience for my boy :) Thank you both for your answers.... Okay I will admit..I have never been ice fishing but I have asked a few questions and taken some random advice and picked up a little lingo..mostly from a dude in a gas station that sells bait lol..but thought I would ask the real fisherman!!!.. We'll see what tomorrow brings burrrrr

6.8 F Is a bit cold wear layers. This time of the year the Pike are coming back into the shallows, Chose a spot in around 3-5' of water. Big pike like Big bait so the Smelt call is a good one. Have him jig also. I like medium sized Rapala jigs, pickeral color is my favorite. Set the bait around 8"-1' off the bottom. If using dead bait lay it right on the bottom. Have him jig around 6"- 1' off the bottom. Drill lots of holes and do not be afraid to move around (jigging) 3 hours is not alot of time so moving around doubles your chances of him catching a fish. Good luck, Have fun!

You know nothing about fishing yet you know more then 50 percent of the random people who ask Q's here? Somethings fishy here lol. You seem like you know quite abit just from reading this Q. If the primary fish are those then a big ol shiner on a hook should work and save you time. -14 celcius is fricken freezing. I cant imagine the fish being very active. I complain about 25°f here But -14 celcius geez!

tips on crappie fishing in january?

tips on crappie fishing in january. in small lakes on public docks.

In our neck of the woods we are Ice fishing so we jig for them. I use a sweedish pimple or a small rapala jig baited with a spike. While fishing in the summer we mark places with structure on our GPS so we can find them come winter through the ice. we then simply drill a few holes around that area we flagged on the GPS and jig a few up in the winter. In the spring I use a mister twister jig or spinnerbait and cast into fallen trees along the shoreline. you need structure usually to get into crappies. So off a dock you could cast over rock piles or fallen logs in the water.

If you are ice fishing, a small jig tipped with a wax worm works really well. I have the best results in about 15ft of water. And as the other guy said, a small rapala jig works well too. If it is not frozen where you are at, Bass Pro makes a Chicken Foot Crappie Grub. The things are lethal! Bass Pro also sells the Strike King Mr. Crappie Joker. Those things are lethal as well. And back to the wax worms... They have a reputation with ice fishing, however, they are an excellent bait year round.

0 5/5 SKstudio - See all my reviews This review is from: Rapala Jigging Rap 02 Fishing Lure (Rainbow Trout) (Sports) This rainbow color and the UV bright lure are very effective on feisty cutthroat trout. Tip the treble with a waxworm and your set.Great action and keeps the interest of the fish under ice. A word of caution, this version of the lure is very small, but it works very well on a number of fish. If you're after larger walleye or lakers I would recommend looking at the size 07 or 09.Fantastic lure to have in your arsenal anyway. Get a few of all sizes and you will catch fish. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , January 22, 2014
