Good fishing Scales for fishing?

fishing scales

Get a digital scale. It'll run you around $20. I've used a Rapala one for years, Berkley also sells one. With a 50 pound capacity, it'll handle any fish you can lift. A buddy of mine tested his and mine (both Rapalas) against a certified scale at his job, and both were within a tenth of a pound at 35 pounds, right on at 10 pounds. (I fish saltwater, and never had a problem with corrosion, though I've never dipped the scale in the water.) Years ago I used a cheap luggage scale that ran under $5.00, it turned out to be a pound off at 15 pounds, and after a while it rusted up and broke. But if you don't need accuracy and fish freshwater and are on a budget, you might look for one of those.

Salter scales i feel are the most accurate, i've used them for many years weighing in at matches.

This depends on the type of fishing-if its fresh water a small set of digital scales, like the rapala handheld scales will work fine, but if its saltwater, your generally going to need something with a much higher weighing capacity depending on the type of fishing e.g. big game but from the shore you might be able to use the smaller digital scales http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templa tes/index/index-display.jsp?id=cat90002& amp;navAction=jump&navCount=1&cm Cat=MainCatcat20166&parentType=categ ory&parentId=cat20166

Best time for bass in GA?

I was just curious as to when the best time to fish bass in georgia is, from season to time of day. Any help would be great. Also what are the best places to fish in the metro atlanta area. Thanks.

Because I like you I’m going to tell you the secrets to Southern Bass. 1- Beast time to catch the biggest bass is early spring, just as the water is worming up in the shallows. Because the big sow bass are trying to lay on the fat for the spawn. The kind of days when you still need a jacket and the suns high with a slight south wind. 2- try to find a place where the shallows are on the north side, the north side will always worm up first because the angle of the sun hit’s the north side the best. You wont the shallow water on the north side because that will draw the sows to feed. (note shallows on the south side are not near as good at this time of year ) 3- as to bait I only fish artificial, best of all is an inline spinner like a mepps or blue fox, colors depend on water clarity I always start with a white or yellow dressed spinner. Or the Rapala jointed floating minnow, use it like a twitch bate, short slow movements. The next is a pig and jig or rubber worm, try several colors to see what they like, I use grape/fire 95% of the Time. The key word is SLOW, remember the water is still some what cold and the sows are lethargic from the cold, you wont a slow moving lure. 4- best time of day is noon to about 4 PM, that way the water has started to warm up some. Now I make I own inline spinners because my son could bankrupt me on how many Mepps he could loose in a day, mepps black furry were $2.25 each back then, where as I could make my own for 25 cents each for top quality. Me and my son on a days like I described above have landed several bass from 4 to 9 pounds in a few hours. But it is wise to return the bass as soon as possible, weigh them and pose with a picture if you wont but get them back in the water ASAP( I prefer digital scales for a good accurate weight ). Remember those big sows are what keep the bass population going.

Rapala, Legendary Fishing Lures

Creator: John E. Mitchell | 2005-07-22

About this book
Rapala - the very name evokes quiet mornings on a mist-shrouded lake, family expeditions in a well-worn rowboat, and - best of all- the thrilling moment when a fish explodes out of the water. This richly illustrated book tells the story of a remarkable company and the iconic angling products they produce. Rapala lures are now sold in 140 countries and are more world-record fish than any other lure. It is the dominant company in a hugely popular sport enjoyed by 44 million recreation anglers in the U.S. alone - more people than play golf or tennis combined.

tournament tested and proven - great scale!

to start, i want to point out the differences in the two scales. the 15lb scale weighs with an accuracy within one ounce, while the 50lb scale has an accuracy within 4oz, or 1/4lb. otherwise, i think the two scales are about identical.i bought the 15lb version of this scale for use in the bass fishing tournament my bar holds every year. i was unsure how well a digital handheld scale would perform, so i got it a couple weeks early and took it everywhere with me to test it out. once i figured out how to turn it on and navigate through the various functions included, i was quite pleased. it feels very sturdy, even though it is also very light-weight. the grip is rubberized and textured so it won't slip from your hands, even when wet.judging by the picture on the listing, i was concerned that the spring-clip clamp for securing fish to the scale wouldn't be very good at keeping hold of the fish. i was wrong! it is a very strong clamp, easily capable of holding on to... 5/5 Tim Wachter (illinois) - See all my reviews, May 6, 2013

    Don't Buy this one!!!!

0 1/5 The Mayor - See all my reviews This review is from: Rapala Digital Scale 50 lb (Sports) I received this scale as a gift, but before I opened it got online to read what kind of reviews it had. Since there were only 2 reviews, Both bad may I say, being the doubting Thomaas I opened the package any way.Thinking that people are just too picky about the way the product should perform,I put it too the test myself. After putting in a new 9 volt Duracll battery, I proceeded to weigh a full bottle of bleach the 3.78 quart size, and it went any wher from 7lbs to 8lbs jumping around as I had it suspended in mid-air.Then after setting it down,it shut off too quickly and when I tried to recall the weight, it showed that the memory was full and was showing a weight of 65.5 lbs. To top it off I tryed to clear the memory and start from scratch, per the instructions, but after about 15 trys, it still would not clear!! I should have taken the other 2 reviewers comments and returned it sooner. Please take now the 3 reviews and sta away from this scale. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , February 15, 2013

(Sports) Checked this product at six weight points over a weight range of 2 to 35lbs. Scale was found to be accurate to less than 2% error maximum over this range. Average error was less than 1%. Consistency of (same) weight applied repeatedly in the same manner was displayed as similar to overall accuracy. Display of weight stabilized quickly and held steady after weight application.Would have preferred having a waterproof rather than water resistant unit case. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , May 25, 2010

0 1/5 Lou - See all my reviews This review is from: Rapala Rapala Mini Digital Scale 50lb. (Sports) Appeals to one due to it's size and being digital. But, undependable as it alwaysreverts to Kg Scale instead of pounds and ounces, most important if living in the U.S. and,the on/off/weigh feature is not dependable either. Never sure when the scale is going to turn on,as well as hoping it will be in pounds and ounces. Not sure what size container you would have toput a 25 pound Northern into get the correct weight. Seems to weigh accurately but memory functions a bust

0 2/5 Mitch G. - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Maurice Sporting Goods RGSDS15 Fish Scale, Digital, 15-Lb. (Sports) I was looking for a relatively low weight digital scale for large mouth bass fishing and this seemed to fit the bill. I'd seen a 50 pound version of a similar scale so I figured this would be smaller but it's not--it's a big unit. The scale takes a 9 volt battery which would seem good but the snap on contacts were loose so I started by using some electrical tape to secure them. For some reason, the scale only has two buttons and this is one of those electronic devices that tries to be "iPod like" in simplicity but turns out to be very frustrating to use, as it seems to independently toggle from one function to another depending on how long you hold the buttons down or in what order, etc. Decided to send it back in favor of a mechanical scale. The directions were no help, unfortunately. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , September 5, 2010
